Sunday 14/10/07 home against AEK Boco.
For this the third home game of the 07/08 season the Fry Club Girls played host to AEK Boco.
Immediately the game kicked off it was clear that in terms of overall play there was little to split both teams. AEK Boco used their superior strength and size to play the long ball game to both their strong fast centre forwards and the Fry Club Girls used a more pleasing to the eye passing game in order to unlock Natalie or Danni.
AEK Boco came close to breaking the dead lock after 10mins with a scorching long range shot which hit the Fry's cross bar, whilst minutes later Emma put a cracking long shot just over the bar of the AEK Boco goal!
Boco took the lead at around the halfway point of the first half as both their powerful forwards broke through the Fry's defence. The Fry Club Girls pushed on with Sophie and Ashlea tearing up the wings to get Natalie away on goal. This they achieved on several occasions but some great goal keeping and defending from the AEK Boco defence denied the Fry Club Girls a goal to put them on level terms. AEK Boco struck again with a fluke goal which struck the Fry's cross bar then Rikki Lee in the Fry's goal on the back of the head and then it went in! 0-2 to AEK Boco.
Chelsie was changed for Georgia in the Fry's midfield as the whistle blew for half time.
The second half started with the Fry Club Girls very much still in the game if they could just find the back of the net !
Emma so nearly grabbed a goal back for Fry's by hitting the post!
AEK Boco put the game out of The Fry's Girls reach minutes later putting the score to 0-3 even though Fry's had nearly all the possession in the AEK Boco half, Boco just caught them on the break and made the most of their opportunities on goal.
Georgia having usefully put herself about was changed back around for a fresh Chelsie. AEK Boco scored yet again on the break and with the game out of reach for Fry's at 0-4 Danni came off to give Steph "C" a run out.
Much to their credit the Fry Club Girls battled on and with a couple of minutes to go Danni returned to mix it up again with the Boco defence. This resulted in Danni shooting from close range hitting the Boco keeper in the chest and the ball then struck a Boco defender and went in the back of the net!
The whistle then blew for the end of the game and the final score was 1-4 to AEK Boco.
Player of the Match for this game was Emma who quite simply covered every blade of grass and fought for every ball well done Emma!
Mentioned in dispatches for this game are Danni who like Emma fought for every ball and passed the ball around intelligently. Rikki Lee who yet again was very brave and outstanding in goal! And Ashlea who was strong and never gave up on the left wing.
